Leticia estévez

I’m Leticia, a Spanish dancer and fashion designer who moved to Amsterdam for love.

My dance journey started back in 1982 when I was just a child performing flamenco in hotels. Over the years, I’ve trained in so many styles—Spanish classical, contemporary, hip-hop, contact improvisation, music, acrobatics... you name it! Since 1995, I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world, dancing, teaching, and performing Latin dances. Whether it’s beginner classes, advanced workshops, or training future teachers, I’ve worked with everyone from small local businesses to big-name singers.

At Leeslo, my goal is simple: to share everything I’ve learned about dance and inspire others in our amazing dance community. Let’s learn, grow, and have fun together!

KIM

​​Hi, I’m Kim! I live in Amsterdam, where I teach MZouk and bachata, and next to that work as a researcher. As I child I partly grew up on Curaçao, in the Caribbean. It was on the island where I fell in love with the classics of salsa and bachata music. But once I moved to Amsterdam, I took the step to actually learn this type of dancing.

Dancing has always been a passion of mine. I started with ballet at 4 years old, did street dance as a kid, and later contemporary. But this always had an individual focus. 

I remember walking into my first social (party) in Amsterdam where Latin music was playing. It was something different. It seemed pure joy filling the space, people having fun and even strangers dancing with each other. From this moment on, dancing also became a way for me to connect with others, and the dance community turned Amsterdam into home for me.

Another world opened up when I ended up in Leticia’s classes. It’s where I gained a deeper understanding of dance and Latin dances specifically, as of myself. Which is why I am honored to now share my knowledge and experience in my own classes at Leeslo with you! Dancing is what I love to do, but being able to transmit my enthusiasm to others has grown my passion even more!

MEREL

I’m Merel, born and raised in Amsterdam. My dance journey started when I picked up salsa  in Arequipa, Peru. Unfortunately back then the Latin dance community wasn’t as far reaching as it is nowadays so when I went to live in Asia I had to take a break from it. In the summer of 2018, having returned to Amsterdam, I picked it back up and haven’t stopped ever since!

Leticia has been the mentor to me that I had been searching for, for many years. With her vast knowledge of dance and how the body and mind work she is able to push you to the full extent of your abilities. Which for me means that I am not only becoming a better dancer everyday, but also that I now teach my own bachata and MZouk classes at Leeslo and am able to pass some of that knowledge on to you!

I love nothing more than to share my passion for dancing with people new to it. To me there is nothing more special to see someone that once started dancing with me to shine on the dance floor years later, having created their own style and flow.
